11 March 2010 Paul Heaton - a 1000 mile bicycle journey to save the English pub

In May 2010 singer Paul Heaton will set out on one of the most unusual tours that any pop artist has ever embarked upon. The ex. Housemartins and Beautiful South front man will set off on a 1000 mile round trip, travelling by bicycle all over England, to play in local pubs across the country – celebrating and promoting two Great British pastimes - cycling and supping ale!

He’ll begin his journey, by setting off with a quick half from the most famous (if not quite real!) boozer in the UK – The Rovers Return in Manchester. Paul will be followed by his band and touring team who will also be staying in the places they encounter along the way. Fans are encouraged to cycle to the gigs and to join the journey between shows with Paul and his team.

Paul Heaton: “I’m looking forward to pedalling around the country to promote cycling and the British pub. Both are very close to my heart. I’ve been cycling all my life and the British pub has provided most of my favourite stop off points. It saddens me to hear about so many pubs closing on a weekly basis so I want to do all I can to get people back to their local.”

Heaton will be playing tracks from his new solo record as well as the occasional song from his extensive back catalogue. Paul has sold several million records and played all over the world. However, any fan of Paul will know, you will see as great a show in the The Flying Horse in Rochdale as any stadium or arena.
