01 June 2009 General Fiasco tour details revealed
The Strathern brothers, Owen 20 (vocals / bass) and Enda 19 (guitar) met Stephen Leacock 19 (drums) at school in Magherafelt, South Derry, N.Ireland. They formed General Fiasco in early 2007 and played their first gig at the Glasgowbury festival near their home town on July 26th of that year. More shows quickly followed and within the past twelve months they have supported the Wombats, One Night Only, The Pigeon Detectives and The Enemy and played at Oxegen, Belsonic and Reading / Leeds Festivals. At the end of last year their debut single ‘Rebel Get By’ was released on the 10th November 2008 as a seven inch single through the hip London based label Another Music = Another Kitchen (now sold out). A second single ‘Something Sometime’ was released in March to coincide with another huge Uk tour and gained them more radio and press support.
The band were invited to play at the 2008 Reading & Leeds festival as part of the ‘BBC Introducing’ line up and their appearance was picked by NME as one of “the ten hopes for the near future.” Since then they have been part of the BBC Introducing line-up at the Electric Proms in October '08 and ‘Rebel Get By’ received plays from Zane Lowe, Steve Lamacq, Colin Murray, Huw Stephens, John Kennedy and Sara Cox and was playlisted at Xfm. They even got an invite to perform an acoustic set at Jo Whiley’s prestigious Little Noise Sessions. Not bad for an unsigned band from Belfast.
The guys are currently finishing their debut album in N Ireland, and head out all over the UK this summer. They will appear at several festivals including Download and Glastonbury and have just announced their biggest headline show to date at the Ulster Hall in Belfast on the 12th September 2009.
